RECOMMANDS THAI FOODS, SOMTUM CONVENT ON SOI CONVENT (so called because of the Catholic Convent located in the middle of this soi or "small road") is conveniently located along the business and tourism sector of Silom Road and is already an institution.
Popularly known among the lunchtime crowd of office-goers, Som-tum Convent is famous for its grilled chicken (GA-YANG), served with a special sweet-spicy sauce on the side, and thai papaya salad (SOM-TUM). You can also order the ever popular ground pork flavored with spices and lime (LARB- MOO) or stripped chicken flavored with spices and lime (LARB-KHAI) served with a side dish of raw string beans and cabbage. Of course, there’s also the national dish of spicy soup with lemongrass and lime (TOM-YUM) with either shrimp (KUNG) or mixed seafood (TA-LAY).
You can always ask the cook to make your favorite dishes. So far, the grilled chicken and somtum I have tasted here are the best in this part of Bangkok. Grilled chicken (small) is priced around 55 Bath and the somtum around 30 Bath.
